  • Seeing the world through Gospel lenses

Spoiler warning for those who have not yet seen The Dark Knight.

I've seen The Dark Knight twice thus far.  Both times I've come away reminded of the Gospel.  The second time I saw it, one scene in particular caught my attention.  At the end of the movie, Batman decides to take the blame for the murders that Two-Face had committed.  He begins to run away from the cops as Gordon and Gordon's son watch.  The son then asks his dad "Why is he running?  He didn't do anything wrong."  As I sat there, that concept of substitution flabbergasted me.  That line made me think of Jesus.

"Why is He being flogged, beaten, spit upon, mocked?  Why is He up on a cross?  Why is He dying?  He didn't do anything wrong."  No.  He didn't.

    I did.

    And He took the blame.
